NextGen Meetings Conference FAQ

Can I apply if I’m not a member of NSA Michigan?

No, this exclusive opportunity is only available to members of NSA Michigan. If you’d like to join NSA Michigan, click here.


Can I apply for multiple roles (e.g., keynote and breakout)?
No, we want to provide everyone with an opportunity to be showcased. Please apply for the role that best aligns with your expertise, interests, and business model.

What happens if I’m selected but cannot attend the prep call or hot seat?
Participation in the Speaker Prep Call on April 22, 2025, and the Speaker Hot Seat on May 10, 2025, is strongly encouraged to ensure you are prepared for the event. If you are unable to attend, we will send out a recording of the prep call. You will be required to email us confirming that you have watched the recording and reviewed the information.

Is there an additional fee to attend the conference beyond my speaking slot?
No. As a selected speaker, you will receive complimentary access to both days of the conference, though you are only required to attend on the day of your speaking engagement.


Is the $50 application fee refundable if I am not selected?
No, the $50 application fee is non-refundable and helps support NSA Michigan’s chapter initiatives, including this event.

What does the $699 fee include, and is it required?
Yes, the $699 fee is required for all selected speakers. It includes the benefits package of professional videography and photography of your session in a prestigious setting with a beautiful stage, as well as access to speaker coaching, a dedicated networking table at the event, and admission for both days. This package is designed to ensure preparation for delivering an impactful presentationhigh-quality assets, and exposure to an audience of decision-makers in Michigan’s meetings and events industry.

Can I choose which day I present (June 2 or June 3)?
Yes, the application form allows you to indicate your availability for June 2, June 3, or both days. We will do our best to accommodate your preference, though final scheduling will depend on the overall event lineup.

Can I submit a previously recorded video for the 5-minute speaking style requirement?
You may submit a previously recorded video, but it must be no longer than 5 minutes. Judges will not watch videos longer than 5 minutes, so ensure your video highlights your best content and delivery within this timeframe.

 

How do I submit my video?

Upload it to YouTube or Vimeo and attach the link in the designated field of the application.

What are the CMP categories, and how should my learning objectives align?
Because attendees will receive continuing education credits, your learning objectives should directly address the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) categories you select. You may address more than one. The categories are:

  • Strategic Planning: Aligning meeting or event objectives with organizational goals.
  • Project Management: Applying processes, methods, skills, and knowledge to achieve project objectives.
  • Risk Management: Identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with meetings or events.
  • Financial Management: Budgeting, financial planning, and fiscal oversight.
  • Human Resources: Managing personnel and staffing aspects of meetings or events.
  • Stakeholder Management: Managing relationships with all parties involved in or affected by the event.
  • Meeting or Event Design: Creating the event experience, including program content and attendee engagement.
  • Site Management: Selecting and managing the physical location of the meeting or event.
  • Marketing: Promoting the event to attract and engage the target audience.

Ensure your objectives speak directly to the category or categories you choose.

How will I know if my session has been selected?
You will be notified via email by April 9, 2025. This email will provide next steps and important information to help you prepare.

Is the Pre-Application Q&A Session on March 4 mandatory?
No, this session is optional. However, it is a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the event and application process. The session will be held onZoom at 6:30pm, using this link: https://zoom.us/j/91960847133?pwd=4M01cyqhaE8I2LEVaUhKleVibZtT7r.1

What support will be provided to help me prepare?
We want you to feel confident and prepared! The preparation we offer will be invaluable to speakers and is considered a benefit of being selected. Selected speakers will participate in:

  • A Speaker Prep Call on April 22, 2025, noon, to review logistics and expectations, and to introduce you to our event partner, Kim Corcoran of Destination Michigan.
  • A Speaker Hot Seat session on May 10, 2025, during the afternoon portion (12:30 - 3:30 pm) of NSA MI Seminar with Craig Valentine, for feedback and fine-tuning.

Can I bring my own slides or visual aids?

  • Mainstage Presentations (keynotes and TED-style speakers): Materials, including slides, must be submitted to the AV team in advance, as all presentations will be controlled and supported by the AV team. Mainstage presenters will not use their own laptops.
  • Breakout Sessions: Presenters must bring their own laptops and any required dongles. The venue will provide a table and the necessary cords to connect your laptop to the projector and screen. Advanced submission of slides is not necessary.

What if I need assistance with accessibility?
We are committed to making this event inclusive for all speakers. If you require any accessibility accommodations, please let us know as part of your application, and we will work with you to ensure your needs are met.
